Nā ʻAumākua is a “mele pale,” a chant to ask for protection and permission before starting a specific hana or task. ʻAumākua, ancestors who have passed into pō, served as guardians for living members of their families and future generations. By chanting Nā ʻAumākua, we include our ancestors in our daily lives and beseech their guidance and mana.
