"FOR x CHANGE " Wailupe ‘Elepaio Enclosure w/ DLNR DOFAW
The Wailupe ‘Elepaio enclosure was built to enclose prime habitat for our endemic and endangered Oʻahu ‘Elepaio. Wailupe Valley is one of the few remaining lowland sites with ‘Elepaio nests, so it is important we restore and protect this ecosystem.

About the event
Since there is limited parking at the trailhead, we will meet at the ʻĀina Haina Shopping Center Food Court Seating area adjacent to Pieology (820 W Hind Dr, Honolulu, HI 96821) at 8:30 - 8:50am, then carpool to the trailhead.
Bathrooms: At the shopping center; none at the trail/restoration site.
About: (WARNING! THERE IS A 1 MILE HIKE TO RESTORATION AREA)The Wailupe ‘Elepaio enclosure was built to enclose prime habitat for our endemic Oʻahu ‘Elepaio. Wailupe Valley is one of the few remaining lowland sites with ‘Elepaio nests, so it's important we restore and protect this ecosystem. There will be a moderate hike to the site, then we'll do weed control using various hand tools and chemical control.

Since Hao Street is a residential area, please be respectful of those who live there and keep noise levels low until we get onto the trail. We will return to the cars between 1:30-2:00 pm.
What to bring:
– Signed waiver (print and bring with you).
– Reusable water bottle(s) and plenty of water (3 liters recommended).
– Clothing that can get dirty (long-sleeve shirt, long socks, and pants are highly recommended!!)
– Closed-toe shoes/boots.
– Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
– Mosquito repellent.
– Snacks.
– Any medications needed, such as EpiPens. Please notify staff if you have any allergies that may require an EpiPen.
– Rain jacket (in case of inclement weather).
