About the event

We will meet at the Makakilo Community Park Recreation Center parking lot and drive together to the site at 9 a.m.

Please don’t be late, as you need to be with the group to pass through the two locked gates on the Pālehua property.

Restrooms: The closest bathroom is at Makakilo Community Park, or a nearby bush of your choice. If you choose a bush, be prepared to pack out any waste and rubbish.

What to bring:

– Reusable water bottle(s) and plenty of water (3 liters recommended).

– Clothing that can get dirty (long-sleeve shirt and pants highly recommended).

– Closed-toe shoes/boots.

– Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

– Mosquito repellent.

– Any medications needed, such as EpiPens. Please notify staff if you have any allergies that may require an EpiPen.

– Rain jacket (in case of inclement weather).

– Snacks.

All tools will be provided, but you're welcome to bring your own gloves.

What to expect: Join us for a fulfilling morning nurturing native Hawaiian plants, removing invasive weeds, and helping expand the renewed native ecosystem at the enclosure on Pālehua. Please wear covered shoes with good treads, sturdy work clothes (long pants and sleeves), and bring your own bottle of water. Be prepared for sun, rain, and possibly mosquitoes.

At the site, volunteers will learn how to identify native and invasive species, and which weeds to pull. We will plant native species in the Akupu Valley exposure. The area is partly shaded.
